Summary: Communication published by the European Commission on 26 January 2022, setting out measures aimed at the implementation of the European Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles for the Digital Decade. Further information: In March 2021, the European Commission laid out its vision for the European Union's digital transformation by 2030. In September 2021, a governance framework was introduced to ensure that the digital targets were achieved. In January 2022, the Commission decided put forward a Declaration on European Digital Rights and Principles to give everyone a clear reference point about the kind of digital transformation Europe promotes and defends. It takes the shape of a joint solemn declaration to be signed by the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission. This Communication accompanies the proposed draft for that declaration. This Communication also outlines the way forward for monitoring the measures and action taken to put the Declaration into practice. It is therefore closely linked to the governance framework put forward in 2021. |
