Summary: Agreement signed by the European Union (EU) and Ukraine in 2021 concerning the integration of the latter in the Common Aviation Area (CAA), also known as the Open Skies Agreement. Further information: The aim of this Agreement is the gradual creation of a CAA between the European Union, its Member States and Ukraine founded on, in particular, identical rules in the areas of safety, security, air traffic management, the environment, consumer protection and computerised reservation systems, as well as identical rules with regard to social aspects. For this purpose, this Agreement sets out the rules, technical requirements, administrative procedures, basic operational standards and implementing rules applicable between the Parties. The Council of the European Union authorized in December 2006 the European Commission to launch negotiations with Ukraine for a Common Aviation Area Agreement. This agreement was initialled in November 2013. It was published in the EU's Official Journal on 3 November 2021. |
