The European Commission's hesitance to define nanotechnology underscores diverging opinions among stakeholders and is causing uncertainty in the sector, according to EurActiv.

During the 4th annual nanotechnology Safety for Success Dialogue Workshop, held in Brussels between 29 – 30 March 2011, the participants discussed the Commission's ongoing search to revise a draft definition of nano that went out to public consultation in 2010, but made clear that no answer has yet been found.
