The European Commission presented its Digital Single Market (DSM) strategy on 6 May 2015. One of the measures included in the package seeks to introduce common rules for radio spectrum allocation across the European Union.

Such topic had been a sensitive issue for member states who have defeated previous attempts. Addressing the spectrum policy was included in a broader attempt for a telecom regulation, to be brought forward in 2016.

The results of a public consultation 700MHz spectrum band were released by the European Commission on 10 June 2015.
