The European Commission released 18.4.00 a Working Document addressing future perspectives and priorities in the ASEM process (Asia-Europe Meeting). The third ASEM Summit will be held in Seoul, South Korea on 20-21 October 2000, with the participation of President Romano Prodi of the European Commission, the fifteen Member States of the EU, and the Heads of State and Government from ten Asian countries (Brunei, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam). The Commission proposes specific priorities for the Summit, including security issues, stronger cooperation on trade and economic issues, intensified cooperation on education and consumer protection and a possible enlargement of participation in ASEM.
