Commission approves Qualcomm’s acquisition of NXP, subject to conditions

Background information:

The transaction was notified to the European Commission in April 2017 and an in-depth investigation was opened in June 2017.

Qualcomm and NXP have dominant or strong market positions with highly complementary products and own a significant amount of intellectual property relevant to smartphone manufacturers.

The European Commisssion announced on 18 January 2018 its decision to approve under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of NXP by Qualcomm. The approval was conditional on full compliance with commitments offered by Qualcomm.
