Commission approves acquisition of Opel by Peugeot

The European Commission looked at the impact of the transaction on the automobile markets at both European and national level, given that PSA and Opel are both active in the manufacture of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles. It also considered the overlapping activities of the two companies in the wholesale and retail sale of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles.

The transaction was notified to the Commission on 30 May 2017.

The European Commission announced on 5 July 2017 it had decided to approve unconditionally the acquisition of Opel by Peugeot, under the EU Merger Regulation.

The Commission concluded that the transaction would raise no competition concerns in the relevant markets.
