Summary: On 1 December 2001, the European Commission approved the largest package of Cohesion Fund aid granted to transport and environment projects in Ireland since the creation of the Fund. The assistance amounts to a total of €401 million for six large infrastructure projects or project stages. It has been approved following the presentation by the Irish Authorities of a 'Strategic Reference Framework' for Cohesion Fund projects for the new budgetary period. The six projects, agreed between the member state and the Commission, concern waste water treatment, rail and roads. |
