Abstract:

The word "co-operation" in the antitrust field is often associated with unlawful behaviour. However, the concept of co-operation also has a positive flavour, when used in the context of enforcement activities carried out by competition authorities. The methods, and level, of co-operation between competition authorities have developed significantly in recent years. This article discusses the various ways in which competition authorities may co-operate, and the associated benefits and challenges, with a particular focus on the European Competition Network, the bilateral relationship between the EU and US and initiatives at a global level.
