Christine Lagarde to be investigated for alleged role in political fraud case

In August 2014 the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, revealed that she was under formal investigation in France for 'negligence' over her role while Finance Minister in the 2008 corruption case that involved a controversial state payout to French tycoon and former minister Bernard Tapie.

On the 29 August 2014 the IMF Executive Board expressed confidence in Mrs Lagarde.
