French President Jacques Chirac has condemned as 'overt provocation' decisions to reprint cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad, 8 February 2006. Feature also discusses other events throughout the world in the continuing controversy.

In February 2007 French interior minister and presidential candidate Nicolas Sarkozy defended the weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo, which was sued by two French Muslim organisations for printing the cartoons in 2006.
