A new chapter is opening in enterprise policy co-operation between the European Union and nine countries bordering the southern Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia). The foundation for this closer relationship is the Euro-Mediterranean Charter for Enterprise which draws heavily on the experience of the implementation of the European Charter for Small Enterprises firstly in the Union itself, then the candidate countries and, most recently, in the Western Balkans. This will provide a coherent framework for extensive exchanges of information and good practice between the Union and countries stretching from Morocco to Syria.
