This paper serves as a means by which to start educating policymakers, the NGO community, corporate leaders, and other relevant stakeholders about the limits of corporate influence over host nations with regard to the human rights standards of their security forces, while highlighting the importance of adopting a new responsible security operations paradigm in complex environments. It explores and describes some efforts undertaken to date by industry-NGO cooperation with respect to influencing host nations in adopting the appropriate level of human right standards and implementing training for their security forces. And, finally, it suggests some new and innovative solutions or possible fixes regarding how to change the narrative on the issue of responsible security operations employed by corporate and governmental decision-makers and institutions influencing host nation behavior. |
