Challenge of holding Catholic Church together

Analysis of the challenges facing a new Pope following the passing away of Pope John Paul II, who died on 2 April 2005. The cardinals who will select John Paul II's successor will face the huge challenge of choosing someone who can both hold together the Catholic Church's own internal divisions while also enforcing a spiritual leadership that can make the Church more broadly relevant in the 21st century.
