The Centre-right law professor and TV pundit Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa won the Portuguese presidency election on the 24 January 2016 with 52% of the vote. The election had been closely watched by the European Commission over concerns about Lisbon's handling of bailout rules. Mr Rebelo de Sousa formally addressed the European Parliament's plenary session on 13 April. |
