Date: 25/04/1996 MEPs were furious this month when an Italian minister failed to turn up for a crucial budget debate during their April plenary session in Strasbourg. His absence was probably caused by a little local election difficulty back in Rome. Nevertheless, British Labour MEP Terry Wynn made it clear he felt he was speaking for everyone present in the chamber when he said that such absenteeism was deplorable.
