Cartels face bigger fines from Brussels

Article previews an announcement by the European Commission on 28 June 2006 concerning a big increase in fines for companies that operate cartels or break European Union competition law. The European Commission adopted new Guidelines on the method of setting fines to be imposed on companies that infringe EC Treaty rules that outlaw cartels and other restrictive business practices (Article 81) and abuses of dominant position (Article 82).
