CARE database website restructured, November 2003

Attention was recently drawn to the Community Road Accident database (CARE) at http://europa.eu.int/comm/transport/care/index_en.htm. The website has since been restructured and additional data and research studies added. Instead of using drop-down menus, the site is now presented in a clearer and simpler way. Selecting the accident statistics link from the left menu brings up four main headings: most recent available data, fatalities, other statistics and quick indicators. Clicking on a heading generates further sub-headings which lead to the data, presented both in actual figures and in graph or table format. This makes is easier to move directly to the set of data required, showing for example a detailed breakdown by country, age group of road user type. The quick indicators heading offers an annual summary in PDF format. The addition of research studies to the site should also provide useful analysis of data available.
