Carbon sink plans criticised by Royal Society

A report published by the Royal Society on 9 July 2001warns that governments should not rely too heavily on forests and farmlands ('carbon sinks') to soak up carbon dioxide in preference to cutting emissions. It is highly likely that the issue will be central to discussions at the international summit on the future of the Kyoto Protocol to be held in Bonn, 19-27 July 2001.
