Summary: Communication presented on 15 March 2019 by the European Commission taking stock of the progress achieved in building a single market for capital, including as regards sustainable finance, and calling on EU leaders to keep up the political engagement to lay down the foundation of the Capital Markets Union (CMU). Further information: The Capital Markets Union (CMU) aims at strengthening the European Union's financial system by providing alternative sources of financing and more opportunities for consumers and institutional investors. It is thus seen as an important single market projects. The CMU Action Plan was published in 2015 and its mid-term review was released in 2017. The previous progress report was adopted in November 2018, shortly before a call by EU leaders for ambitious progress by Spring 2019 on the Capital Markets Union. This progress report shows that the European Commission delivered all the measures it had committed to in the Action Plan in the mid-term review. |
