Preview and reports of a conference hosted by the United Kingdom government in Brighton in April 2012 on the future of the European Court of Human Rights. Ken Clarke, the UK justice minister, chaired the meeting, at which it was suggested that most of the 47 members of the Council of Europe might sign up to UK proposals to make sure the court dealt with only the most egregious violations of human rights. However, there was opposition to the proposals from some experts, the European Movement international and some governments such as the German government. |
