The EU should abandon its biofuels targets because they are damaging the environment, the United Kingdom's Environmental Audit Committee of Members of the Parliamenthas reported, January 2008.

EU Energy Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, responding to the report disagreed with the conclusions and said that the biofuels strategy is delivering significant greenhouse gas reductions, compared with its alternative, oil.
