Businesses warn of fall-out after corporate tax case opinion

An Opinion issued by the European Court of Justice on 6 April 2006, in a case brought by companies within the British American Tobacco (BAT) group, could end up costing the UK Treasury billions of pounds. The case alleges that the UK Government breached European Union law by taxing dividends from foreign subsidiaries that did not apply to dividends paid by UK-resident companies.
