The European Commission adopted on 13 October a White Paper on liner shipping conferences in which the Commission suggests introducing greater competition in the maritime sector. The Paper considers repealing the generous exemption from competition rules which has benefited the sector for almost 20 years and which allows it to fix the price for transporting goods between the European Union and respectively the Far East and the United States, as well as between the EU and other regions. |
