According to an updated report, 'Discriminatory tax barriers facing the EU funds industry: A progress report', discriminatory tax measures in most EU Member States continue to form a formidable obstacle to the development of a real single market in investment funds. The report by Price Waterhouse Coopers in collaboration with FEFSI, the Federation of the European investment funds industry, was released on 20 January 2003. The European Commission is considering legal action against France amid allegations of tax discrimination against non-domestic investment funds and officials are also looking into allegations of tax discrimination in other Member States, including the UK, Austria and Denmark.
