Brussels set to make rail companies pay for cross-border delays

Under plans likely to be backed by the European Commission on 3 March 2004, railway companies will be obliged to compensate passengers who have suffered delays or cancellations of cross-border train journeys. The plans have been criticised by the Community of European Railways, an industry lobby group.
