Brussels report on aid will boost Schröder

Gerhard Schröder's campaign to preserve Germany's industrial policy received a boost in May 2002 with the latest annual report on competitiveness in European industry suggesting state aid is acceptable in some cases. The report by Erkki Liikanen, European Commissioner for Enterprise and the Information Society, is published at the end of a period that has seen Brussels and Berlin at loggerheads over support for the car and coal industries.
