The UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, met José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission, at 10 Downing Street, London, on 5 June 2008. They spoke about the current economic difficulties faced by rising energy bills and the rising cost of food and how these difficulties need to be challenged at both a domestic and international level. As a result the Prime Minister and President Barroso agreed that these important issues should be a key priority of the forthcoming European Council.
