The British and US governments began a joint effort in January 2002 to identify million of dollars placed in foreign bank accounts by the Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and his friends. The move is in preparation for a possible decision by Washington and the European Union to impose personal sanctions on Mr Mugabe and leading members of his government.
