[Brexit and the Conservative Party]: Conservative Party Conference, Birmingham, 30 September – 3 October 2018

The governing Conservative Party of the United Kingdom held its annual conference in Birmingham from 30 September - 3 October 2018.

Brexit featured highly in both a number of official speeches and behind the scenes as Prime Minister Theresa May and her ministers sought to build up support from Conservative Party grassroots supporters for her Chequers Agreement and subsequent White Paper: The future relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union, July 2018.

Many Conservative supporters of both Leave and Remain disliked the nature of the future EU-UK relationship as proposed by the Chequers Agreement, as did the European Commission and the EU.
