Bolivian Foreign Minister visits the Commission and signs future cooperation

Bolivia´s Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca Céspedes visited the European Commission in Brussels on the 10 December 2008. He met Commissioner for External Relations and Neighourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, to discuss a range of significant bilateral issues as well as EU-Andean Community relations.

During the visit, Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner and Foreign Minister Choquehuanca signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Community cooperation with Bolivia for the period 2007 to 2013, which has an allocation of €234 million. This cooperation would focus on the creation of sustainable economic opportunities for decent work; the fight against illicit drug production and trafficking by means of comprehensive development to tackle poverty and enhance social cohesion; and the sustainable management of natural resources, in particular through support for the integrated management of national and international river basins.
