Blair undermined by euro campaigns

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's hopes of postponing the debate on the single currency until after the next UK election are being undermined. Two former UK chancellors of the exchequer endorsed claims that, far from converging, the UK and EU economies are drifting further apart. A paper published on 5.6.00 by the New Europe group said the UK economy was further than ever from meeting Gordon Brown's (UK chancellor of the exchequer) five economic tests for euro membership.
