Date: 22/05/1997 Like all good hosts, the Greek authorities promised to keep in touch with the Regional Policy Commissioner Monika Wulf-Mathies and give her a ring sometime. In fact, their grateful thanks after the Commissioner visited a new recycling plant paid for largely with EU cash extended to a rather splendid gold ring and a pair of earrings with which Wulf-Mathies was rather pleased. Now, sadly, she has sent the baubles back - after someone pointed out that they were worth about 1,250 ecu. |
