European Union citizens have unprecedented opportunities to travel, live and work in the EU country of their choice. They can shop around for the cheapest goods and services. Their rights as citizens and consumers are protected by EU laws throughout the Union just as they would be in their home country. This is all down to the creation of the single market in which people, goods, services and money can move freely. This market consists of 458 million citizens in 25 countries, more than the combined population of the United States and Russia. Created in 1993, the single market is a work in progress, which is constantly expanded, refined and updated. This booklet describes some of the many benefits EU citizens enjoy. |
