The German government signalled on the 24 June 2010 it was considering legislation to quell protests from both company chiefs and worker representatives over a court ruling that threatens the way they agree wage deals.

The judges in Erfurt, eastern Germany, ended on the 23 June 2010 a 50-year-old practice of extending in-house wage deals made between an employer and its biggest union to cover all workers in the company doing similar jobs.
