Belgium seeks to unify EU’s Baghdad policy

Belgium attempted to forge a united European Union policy over Iraq on 11 March 2002, as the United States unveiled plans to shift its nuclear strategy to an offensive stance directed at Iraq and other 'rogue states'. Belgium hopes that if the Europeans can put enough pressure on Iraq, tentative plans by Washington to attack Baghdad could be averted.
