Barroso’s research institute on hold

Plans to set up the European Institute of Technology to bolster technological research in the European Union are on the backburner as concerns over finance and structure hit the project. Diplomats told the FT they were making slow progress on the proposal for a EIT in the face of strong political opposition and failure to win financial backing for the €2.4bn project from the private sector.
