Barroso defends Europe’s economic strength

Report of comments by Jose Manuel Barroso, European Commission President to the European Parliament, 16 January 2008. He said that Europe’s economy remains strong despite signs of an impending downturn, and that the credit crisis triggered by US mortgage losses would restrict growth in the European Union but that there should not be a loss of confidence.
