Bank of France shrugs off Natixis risk

Natixis, the French investment bank, never posed a risk to the French banking system, the Bank of France governor said in June 2009.

His words appeared to contradict those of François Pérol, President Nicolas Sarkozy’s former top financial adviser.
Mr Pérol was moved in a hurry earlier in 2009 from the Elysée to effect the merger between Caisse d’Epargne and Banque Populaire, the two mutual banks which between them own 70% of Natixis.
