Date: 08/05/1997 Does John Spencer warrant a place in the Commission book of records? Social Affairs Commissioner Pádraig Flynn's deputy chef de cabinet was in his post for just four months, including the Christmas and Easter holidays. Spencer obviously discovered in that brief time that he preferred fisheries policy to social policy - he has returned to DGXIV (fisheries) where his previous post as head of unit handling negotiations with the third world was still open. Flynn has found a replacement from within his existing cabinet staff: Seamus Carroll, who has worked with the Commissioner since the start of his spell in Brussels in 1993, has been promoted. |
