Autonomous driving takes back seat as connected car law prepared

Features discusses the progress towards an EU response to the developing technology of connected cars, and the challenges of adopting appropriate regulation in this complex area.

In January 2016, the Platform for the Deployment of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems in the European Union (C-ITS Platform) released its final report. This platform was created by the European Commission to gather relevant public and private stakeholders on the matter.

The European car industry lobby group ACEA showed its frustration in May 2016 over the lack of agreement within the EC on technologies like driverless cars.
