Background and further information:

Austrian conservative government wants to impose a ban on headscarves for girl under 10 as part of child protection law. This measure aims at protecting Austrian culture from Islamic influences. This comes after the prohibition of full-face veils in January 2017. The number of young girls affected by this measure is unclear since most Muslim women don't start wearing a headscarf until puberty.

By setting up such a measure, Austria following in the footsteps of other European countries like France, Belgium, The Netherlands and in the German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg who have also imposed similar bans.
