Date: 22/10/1998 Holding the EU presidency may be a novelty for Austria, but the country's Socialist MEPs have shown they are quick learners. Although there are over two months of the presidency left, the country's Euro MPs held a press conference last week to talk about the government's European achievements. This is surely a case of jumping the gun, particularly as the two European summits to be hosted by the Austrians have yet to take place. Perhaps they got the idea from the previous UK presidency, which put out a lengthy list of 45 achievements in February this year - after just two months at the EU helm. |
