Article reported that the Greek government was renewing its commitment in the summer of 2012 to the 2011 agreement with the Troika (EU/IMF) to axe 150,000 jobs in the public sector by 2015 (about 20% of the total), according to officials struggling to meet an EU-IMF deadline to identify €11.5bn of fresh spending cuts by the end of August 2012.

After hitting a record 23.1% in May 2012, the Greek jobless rate is projected to reach 29% in 2013, according to figures published in August 2012 by the research institute of the trade union federation GSEE.
