The Statistics in Focus presents the main trends in asylum applications in the European Union in 2006. The number of asylum applicants in the EU has been falling for the last five years and in 2006 there were 192,000 applications lodged in 27 EU Member States. This compared with 670,000 applications in 1992 (data for EU-15), and marked a significant decrease during this period. |
