Ashcroft seeks to reassure Europe over border controls

During a visit to Europe on 30 September 2004, the US Attorney-General John Ashcroft insisted that Europeans should regard new fingerprinting procedures at US airports as evidence of effective anti-terrorism co-operation and not a restriction on their freedom.
