Anti-tax avoidance: close tax gap with low-tax third countries, say MEPs

The European Parliament's economic and monetary affairs committee welcomed in a resolution on 24 May 2016 the European Commission's proposal for an EU anti-tax avoidance directive.

Members of the committee nonetheless advocated stricter limits on deductions for interest payments and an effective corporate tax rate of 15%.

The proposal needs unanimous approval by the Council of the European Union, which held a policy debate on this subject on 25 May.
