Date: 24/05/01 LA PIANISTE, the sexually-explicit film featuring Isabelle Huppert (above) which won the Grand Prix at Cannes, was another success for the Union's €350 million aid programme for the industry. Culture Commissioner Viviane Reding congratulated its stars and director Austrian Michael Haneke after they nearly swept the boards at the festival. The EU, which part-financed previous winners Dancer in the Dark and Rosetta, is helping fund distribution for La Pianiste. Reding's spokesman Christophe Forax said the Commission had no control over the film's content, which includes scenes of sado-masochism.
