A Russian court sentenced two men found guilty of the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya to life imprisonment on the 9 June 2014, and handed lengthy prison terms to three others involved in the killing. Rustam Makhmudov, a Chechen convicted of firing the fatal shots at Politkovskaya, and his uncle Lom-Ali Gaitukayev, accused of organising the hit, were jailed for life at Moscow city court. The Moscow City Court prosecutor said that the outcome was the highest achievement of Russian justice, but the outcome would only satisfy the complainants when the mastermind of the murder was established. |
