Anger as Microsoft hires EU official

Microsoft angered its competitors on 28 November 2002 when it announced it was hiring an official from the European Commission, in the middle of an investigation by the EU competition authorities into the company.

Detlef Eckert, who had been working on EU information technology policy, will help Microsoft develop better computer security.
